MY IDEAS
- I would seek to make the Rec Center more affordable
- I would try to have a “multi-user” card with the Park District so a family can get a discount if they enroll in two or more of our facilities (such as The Rec. Center and Centennial for skating).
- I would have surveys and other communication outreach at all of our appropriate venues in order to get the full measure of feedback from our stakeholders
- I would try to get some of Heller Nature Center’s Programming into the center of town so more people will come to see their wonderful programs and exhibits
- If you generally like the park district’s treatment of the lakes, parks, preserves, programming and facilities, then I am your candidate. (I am supported by everyone currently on the board) I will not support raising taxes or proposing a referendum to support the Park District – our taxes are high enough. I will work to fix the areas in need, attempt to keep the prices affordable, will listen more than talk, and will work every day with our staff to make our Park District the best in the state.
Why I Want to be on the Board
I want to be on the Board because it is a natural progression of the type of volunteer service I currently perform in Highland Park. A passionate volunteer, I dedicate a majority of my free time to a variety of causes. I am currently Vice-Chairman of the Human Relations Commission (HRC), organizer of the MLK Day of Service, and have volunteered for the Moraine Township Food Pantry and Garden, Stupey Cabin Restoration and I am the founder of HPForward, a pro-kindness initiative on the North Shore.
Being on the Park Board is also an extension of my current interests being an avid swimmer, walker, hiker, biker, and tennis/paddle tennis enthusiast. While my kids were growing up I was known as "Coach Terry" because I coached House League Softball, Baseball and Soccer. I also advised the Park Board on issues such as Baseball and Golf.
I agree with the concept of the forward-looking Green Print 2024. I would be honored to be elected to the Board so I can be a part of helping shape the Park District during this exciting and critical time.

- I will be an independent minded member of the Board who uses the patience I have developed from being a teacher for 31 years.
- I also have a reputation for kindness, teamwork and honesty through my work as a member of the HRC and by my many HPForward initiatives which will benefit both the Board and our residents.
- I can be a champion of the citizens of this town and I will strive to bring recreation and beauty to ALL Highland Park residents regardless of age, income and ability level.

Service to the Highland Park CommunityHPForwardFour years ago I secretly started a "pay it forward" campaign when I anonymously sent hundreds of cards to residents around the North Shore and asked them to do something nice for someone, hand them the card, then hopefully they would do the same. This is how HPForward was born.
